Normalizing Dissent Campus Tour
Since Fall of 2017, Ex-Muslims of North America has brought ex-Muslim speakers and activists to campuses all across the United States and Canada. From University of Colorado to MIT, we have worked to inspire inquiry and bring thought-provoking conversations where they are most needed. It is vital that young adults learn to think critically about difficult topics. Unfortunately, nuanced and challenging conversations – particularly around issues which can evoke a strong emotional response – may not be as prevalent in our universities as we might hope. Ex-Muslims and other critics of Islam have been disinvited, protested, and heckled at universities all across the West – many times due to pressure by Muslim student associations. Occasionally, they are also aided by progressive groups, who misunderstand our values (and it appears, their own). Meanwhile, it is precisely during the years of young adulthood that many Muslims become ex-Muslims – the largest cohort of those who join our Communities are of college-age. This is also the time where they first begin to experience the isolation and abandonment common to apostates. With our Normalizing Dissent Tour, we want to change this. With the help of local and campus groups, we are challenging convenient narratives with compassion and honesty. Want to learn more about our tour, including more information about dates and speakers?
