Washington DC – Ex-Muslims of North America (EXMNA) is organizing a panel event of three trailblazing ex-Muslim leaders in New York City this summer.
On July 21st, 2018 from 5-7pm, panelists Muhammad Syed, Ali A. Rizvi and Ibn Warraq will discuss the growing number of people leaving faith behind. The panel will share their thoughts on how far reason has come, how much farther there is to go, and what it will take to escape from the shadow of religion.
Currently, over a dozen Muslim majority countries punish leaving Islam by death and many more consider it a crime worthy of imprisonment. Often, even the mere accusation of blasphemy can result in vigilante violence. Additionally, many ex-Muslims in the West experience repercussions such as shunning and physical violence by their communities and/or families seeking to protect and preserve communal honor. Despite the widespread persecution, atheism continues to grow rapidly across Muslim communities. Though apostates from Islam have lived in fear for centuries, EXMNA believes it is time for ex-Muslims to receive the full measure of human dignity. Events sponsored by EXMNA work to achieve such a world.
Ex-Muslims of North America is a 501 (c) (3) registered nonprofit which advocates for acceptance of religious dissent, promotes secular values, and aims to reduce discrimination faced by those who leave Islam.
